Anthony O. Wells, Ph.D., is a licensed psychologist, specializing in providing both therapy and assessment services to children and adolescents. He provides individual therapy services to children, adolescents, and young adults, as well as family therapy. Dr. Wells also provides psychological and psychoeducational evaluations.

Dr. Wells’ background involves working with middle school-age children and adolescents. He adopts a cognitive behavioral treatment and family systems approach when understanding youth and their needs. He has experience addressing symptoms and behaviors related to ADHD and oppositional defiant disorder in addition to anxiety disorders and mood disorders. Dr. Wells has assisted children and their families as they navigate challenging issues like child out of home placements and return (e.g., from foster care and group homes), juvenile justice involvement (e.g., probation and detention), dynamics surrounding child abuse and neglect, and strained parent-child relationships. Dr. Wells values building youth resilience through relationships, enhancing filial bonding and connection, preparing the youth’s capacity to form healthy relationships later in life. Similarly, Dr. Wells is an advocate for identifying and reducing risk to healthy child and adolescent development.

Dr. Wells has extensive experience performing psychological evaluations for various issues like ADHD, psychological disorders, cognitive ability, and academic achievement. He has a specialty in performing parental capacity evaluations that evaluate a caregiver’s ability to meet the developmental, emotional, and physical needs of their children.
Dr. Wells is a native Carolinian, born and raised in Durham, NC. He earned his bachelor’s degree at the University of Texas at San Antonio. He earned his master’s and doctorate (Ph.D.) degrees from Virginia Tech where he completed a track in child clinical psychology. His dissertation focused on identifying protector factors to enhance the lives of adult survivors of child maltreatment. Dr. Wells completed an internship and did postdoctoral residency work at the League of Therapists that offered a range of services, including individual, couple, and family therapy, and intensive in-home services with a focus on structural family therapy and family systems.
Dr. Wells is a veteran having serviced in the United States Air Force and Texas Air Guard. In his free time, Dr. Wells enjoys spending time with his daughter and wife and extended family on excursions exploring the growth and development around the Triangle Area.
