Kristen Lewis, Ph.D. is a licensed psychologist, specializing in providing both therapy and assessment services to children and adolescents. She has spent over a decade as a licensed school psychologist for Wake County Public Schools and was recently named practitioner of the year for North Carolina! Dr. Lewis believes in empowering children and families with the skills to meet their goals and enjoys helping children realize their strengths and unique potentials. She believes that building a trusting relationship with families is important to treatment success.

Dr. Lewis has an approach to therapy that encompasses several modalities, including cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, and mindfulness therapy. She has experience working with children to address a variety of challenges, including anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, impulse control difficulties, anger management, poor social skills, and peer and family conflict. Specifically, Dr. Lewis helps clients challenge maladaptive thoughts, develop resiliency and coping skills, and learn to incorporate and generalize skills into everyday life.

Dr. Lewis provides comprehensive evaluation services and has significant experienced conducting psychological testing and psychoeducational evaluations, such as Learning Disorder testing, Autism Testing, ADHD Testing, IQ Testing, Achievement Testing, and Gifted Testing. Her expertise in public school academic/behavioral interventions and the special education process adds a unique perspective to the assessment (and therapy) process. Dr. Lewis leads social skills groups for children and teens throughout the year as well as week-long social skills day camps in the summer. These groups and camps cover many issues that help kids develop the skills needed to foster healthy relationships and to deal with the challenges of everyday life. Common areas of focus include self-control, anger management, gossiping, bullying, shyness, communication, and self-esteem.
Dr. Lewis was born and raised in North Carolina. She completed her doctorate degree in school psychology at North Carolina State University. Her dissertation focused on the relationship between parenting behaviors and children’s socio-emotional and academic adjustment. In graduate school, she co-authored a variety of research articles and conference presentations, taught undergraduate psychology classes, and completed her internship within Wake County Public Schools. In addition to clinical work, Dr. Lewis currently teaches psychology classes for Wake Technical Community College.
Dr. Lewis enjoys spending time with her two lively boys, wonderful group of friends, traveling, cooking, watching movies, and rooting for the Wolfpack!
