Emily specializes in providing child, teen, and young adult therapy and parent coaching. She has experience providing therapy for a wide range of mental health concerns including: anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, emotion regulation, adjustment issues, behavioral issues, /Groups-Camps/Social-Skills, ADHD, co-parenting, nd trauma. Emily has an eclectic approach to treatment and utilizes a variety of modalities depending on a client’s needs. She approaches therapy from a person-centered therapeutic orientation and integrates techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Family Systems Therapy. Emily believes in the importance of building a strong therapeutic relationship between client and therapist. She strives to create a warm, supportive, comfortable environment where clients supported and empowered on their journey towards growth and healing.

Group Therapy for Kids and Teens, Social Skills Groups and Summer Day Camps, Cary and Raleigh NC

Emily leads leads social skills groups for children and teens throughout the year as well as week-long social skills day camps in the summer. These groups and camps cover many issues that help kids develop the skills needed to foster healthy relationships and to deal with the challenges of everyday life. Common areas of focus include self-control, anger management, ossiping, bullying, shyness, communication, and self-esteem.

Emily graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Master’s degree in Clinical Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling. She also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from North Carolina State University. Emily completed her practicum at Chapel Hill Vocational Rehabilitation, gaining experience with teenagers with intellectual and developmental disabilities, She completed her internship here at Wynns Family Psychology, gaining experience in individual therapy, group therapy, and family therapy services for a wide range of clients and presenting concerns. She has experience with teen DBT and building social skills at the elementary and middle school level. As part of her graduate studies, Emily extensively researched the effects of a family member’s disability on a teenager’s anxiety and how to best reduce it.

In her spare time, Emily enjoys spending time with her family, reading, crafting, and baking.
