Sam Stalter, LCSWA is a double Tar Heel, which means they graduated with their undergraduate and graduate degrees from UNC-Chapel Hill in HDFS and MSW, respectively. During grad school, Sam had internship experiences that gave them the knowledge and confidence to discuss trans and queer-related concerns with parents to support them in navigating what could be a challenging time. Sam has experience working with LGBTQ+ youth in helping them explore and understand their identity while also supporting youth with their mental health.
Sam (they/them) has experience working with pre-teens and teens around ADHD, ASD, LGBTQ+ issues, depression, anxiety, and trauma. They can also help clients experiencing life changes, emotional regulation concerns, impulsivity, and anger issues.
Sam uses a combination of modalities to suit individual needs best. They draw the most from CBT, Family Systems, and strength-based approaches. Sam also incorporates grounding and mindfulness skills in their approach. .
Sam strives to build strong relationships with their clients and meet them where they are. Every child is unique and brings their skills to the table. It is important to help children and teens understand and identify their emotions while learning how they can impact others. Emotions can be overpowering when left unchecked, grounding and coping skills can help with keeping them in check.
For parents, Sam will work with you to understand your child's diagnosis and how it impacts your child, you, and the family system as a whole.
In their free time, you can catch Sam playing with their cat, Abby, cross-stitching, or making stained glass creations! They love a good live concert, especially during the summer months, and Sam plans to become a certified Beekeeper!
