Child, Teen & Family Therapist, Cary and Raleigh NC
Spencer specializes in the treatment of children and teens and approaches treatment through the lens of attachment, understanding how each individual is affected by the family system and how important the parent-child relationship is to wellness. Spencer is trained in both levels of the Theraplay™ treatment protocol as well as Filial Therapy, both family-based forms of treatment. As a Registered Play Therapist™, Spencer also uses play therapy with children (appropriate for ages 3-12) to help develop natural strengths of effective communication, self-confidence, emotional wellness and enhancing social relationships. Spencer also enjoys working with adolescents and can use a more directive approach with this population such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
Prior to therapy, Spencer spent over a decade working with children and adolescents in recreation-based settings and credits his mom for the prompt to do so after seeing an effective gift, which provided a natural transition to working with this population in therapy. As a Licensed Therapist, Spencer now seeks to focus on the presenting problem and assisting clients and families in collaborating on a solution.
When Spencer is not in the office, he can be found spending time with his family outside, drinking delicious coffee and adventuring around his favorite city of Raleigh.
